NBA Mock Draft 2023

This 2023 NBA Mock Draft is updated Thursday, June 22, 2023. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

  1. San Antonio Spurs San Antonio Spurs: Victor Wembanyama, C, France France
The Spurs were rewarded for Gregg Popovich’s incoherent rantings, but this might be a curse more than a blessing. Drafting a big Frenchman has its risks, but the Spurs will pull the trigger on this no-brainer selection.

  2. Charlotte Hornets Charlotte Hornets: Brandon Miller, SF, Alabama Alabama
The Hornets underachieved last year, but they’re not too far away from being a playoff team in the very weak Eastern Conference. They need another dynamic scorer to get them over the hump. Charlotte may not want to deal with Brandon Miller’s off-the-field, erm, off-the-court problems, but they may deem him too good.

  3. Portland Trailblazers Portland Trailblazers: Scoot Henderson, PG, USA USA
The Blazers have Damian Lillard at the moment, but he’s been the subject of many trade rumors. The Blazers can begin anew with Scoot Henderson and acquire draft capital for Lillard. If, however, Henderson is off the board, the pick will likely be Brandon Miller, who is the Jalen Carter of the 2023 NBA Draft class. He has some major off-the-field/legal issues. However, crime is legal in Portland, so he’ll have that going for him.

  4. Houston Rockets Houston Rockets: Amen Thompson, PG/SG, USA USA
The Rockets were a fun team to watch down the stretch. They don’t need another wing, but they can justify this as being the best player available. Amen Thompson can also play point guard, which is a much bigger need for Houston.

  5. Detroit Pistons 2023 NBA Mock Draft Detroit Pistons: Cam Whitmore, SF, Villanova
If there’s something the Pistons love doing, it’s collecting centers. Maybe they’ll add another one. What they should do is find a wing because they are sorely lacking in that department. Cam Whitmore just had a great workout to perhaps solidify himself in the top five.

  6. Orlando Magic Orlando Magic: Ausar Thompson, SF, USA USA
The second Thompson twin goes to the Magic, who need a wing. By the way, the Thompson twins are from the team Overtime Elite, which sounds bizarre to me. Can a team really be elite if they always go to overtime? You’d think an elite team would avoid overtime.

  7. Indiana Pacers Indiana Pacers: Jarace Walker, PF, Houston Houston
The Pacers have been a poor defensive team in recent years, so they could use someone to help in that regard.

  8. Washington Bullets Washington Bullets: Anthony Black, PG, Arkansas Arkansas
The Bullets need a name change back to their original name more than anything. The No. 2 need is a point guard because Monte Morris must be upgraded.

  9. Utah Jazz Utah Jazz: Taylor Hendricks, PF, Central Florida Central Florida
The Jazz need help in the backcourt and on the wing, so Bilal Coulibaly would fit in quite well. However, the Jazz may not be able to pass up on Taylor Hendricks if he’s available, as Hendricks could go as early as No. 7.

  10. Dallas Mavericks Dallas Mavericks: Bilal Coulibaly, SF, France
The Mavericks need to add talent around Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. It’s worth noting that when I saw Bilal Coulibaly’s name for the first time, I thought it said Bill Cosby, who would not be a good fit in Dallas.

  11. Orlando Magic Orlando Magic: Gradey Dick, SF, Kansas Kansas
The Magic will think long and hard about drafting Gradey Dick to add to their team. Dick could go higher than this, but the Magic will be glad that he’d be able to come to their team.

  12. Oklahoma City Thunder Oklahoma City Thunder: Dereck Lively, C, Duke
The Thunder have Chet Holmgren, but there’s a chance they may want to double up on centers to give themselves a chance to have great size to combat Nikola Jokic in a couple of years.

  13. Toronto Raptors Toronto Raptors: Jalen Hood-Schifino, PG, Indiana Duke
The Raptors could lose Fred VanVleet in free agency this summer, so the Raptors are in play for a point guard with this pick. They could also pursue a two-guard because that’s not a position of strength either.

  14. New Orleans Pelicans New Orleans Pelicans: Jordan Hawkins, SG, Connecticut Connecticut
The Pelicans could use a better two-guard than Trey Murphy to complete their back court.

  15. Atlanta Hawks Atlanta Hawks: Cason Wallace, PG, Kentucky Kentucky
It may seem odd to add a guard to a back court comprised of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray, but Atlanta could stand to add another floor general in case Young gets hurt.
